My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Jabberwock This was our first experience with a B&B. Dawn and John were very hospitable, truly making us feel "at home." We didn't know what to expect, had no other B&B's to compare it to. The "Tum Tum Tree" (a little fridge fully stocked with beverages outside the rooms) was a nice surprise. Enough room to keep our own goodies too. Snacks throughout the B&B, nuts, cookies, jellybeans, etc., not to mention the cocktail hour with appetizers -- you won't go hungry staying here.

We stayed in the Mimsy room, small but very charming and intimate, with a great view of the peninsula. It was just what my husband and I needed -- time to reconnect, laugh and simply chill. Best sleep I've had in months! Our two-night stay was effortless. Took a short drive over to Carmel, walked 3 short blocks to Cannery Row, even caught a movie. Had two great dinners (Dawn suggested the restaurants -- both delish!). Woke up each morning to go for a short 5 mile run in the Jabberwrock neighborhood before breakfast, whoa, the hills were challenging, but offered a good workout.

Small talk amongst the other guests was painless, and at times very interesting. No one was intrusive, you can have your alone time if you want. Everyone we talked to there said Jabberwock was one of the best B&B's they have ever stayed at.

My husband and I truly lucked-out for our first B&B stay. We will be back for sure, anytime we come to Monterey, Jabberwock is where we'll stay! - Michelle & Joel, Marina del Rey

Louis and I just wanted to say thank you again for such a lovely stay at The Jabberwock. You two certainly have a way of making your guests feel at ease and welcome. Everything, from the warm reception, beautiful rooms, the fantastic Hors d'oeuvres, wine, breakfast, cookies, limoncello..oh, and JABBERJUICE was fantastic! If all that wasn't enough, the service was even more spectacular. You made us feel truly pampered and made us feel as if we were visiting friends. We enjoyed spending time at the inn playing scrabble and chatting with you and the other guests. Your recommendations and endless assistance in making whatever reservations were needed was incredible. You two are the definition of hospitality. We had never been to a Bed & Breakfast before. Now, I am sure we are spoiled. You have set the bar so high nothing will probably ever even come close to yours. Thank you again so much for such a nice stay. Thanks for a wonderful vacation place. All the other hotels and B&Bs have lost my business - when I come back to Monterey I will be returning to the Jabberwock Inn. We arrived exhausted and within 15 minutes of meeting John and Dawn were calm and relaxed. We were fortunate enough to visit during December with all the holiday decorations put up throughout the craftsman style house. Food and company were great and the rooms are charming. The wraparound porch is really nice. John and Dawn must have hundreds of friends all over the world because they really make you feel at home. Most places we stay in our room - here we spent more time in the living room and porch. Plus we have to come back to play bocce ball. - Smitty and Deb

We did our homework to select the perfect B&B in Monterey and we were rewarded with a great experience. John & Dawn were terrific innkeepers and truly made us feel like family in their home. The Craftsman style home had a great deal of charm and we loved staying in the Borogove room for 3 nights. Although the other rooms looked nice and had their own charm, we enjoyed staying in our spacious room with a great view of the bay. The fireplace, jaccuzzi, complimentary brandy, etc. added to the experience. John and Dawn, without pressure, helped to bring the different guests together each evening for wonderful appetizers, great wine, and good conversation. John also taught Bocci ball to interested guests and fostered good natured competition between teams on the court at their property. The hosts were also wonderful for arranging reservations/tickets for dinner, the aquarium, and for itenerary help if desired. The location of the Jabberwock is perfect for a quick walk to Cannery Row and the Aquarium and a short drive to the wharf or 17 Mile Drive. The endless home baked cookies were a hit with everyone. Breakfast, though a little high on carbs, was very tasty and got our days off to a good start. The only thing we were disappointed in was that we had to leave!!! We will recommend this whimisical Alice in Wonderland getaway to any of our friends who may be headed to that part of California for a great travel adventure. Dan & Diane, Austin, Texas

All I can say is BRA-VO!! Heather and I went on and on about how much we love this b&b. We both agreed that we could make an entire vacation without ever leaving the house!! We had the small room, but it comes with the huge private bathroom down the hall. It was almost like getting two rooms for the price of one! My favorite part was the wine and hors d'ouevres service. The entire house gathered in the living room and chatted about restaurants, vacation highlights, horror stories of the daily grind, and how happy we all were to be out of town. Heather and I played chess on the antique Alice and Wonderland set. We were able to
concentrate on the game but still felt apart of the conversation. It was great!! We were having so much fun we forgot to eat dinner!! Instead we opened the bottle of champagne that I brought and drank it with Dawn and John!! They even let me initiate a game of Scattergories with the other guests when they returned from dinner!! What a blast we had! In the morning I was awakened by the smell of cooking bacon and brewing coffee. The raspberry crepes hit the spot, and the Jabberjuice is pretty epic!! I can not say enough good things about The Jabberwock!! One piece of advice that I would like to pass along to prospective guests: Dawn and John are the ultimate hosts!! So if you DON'T like incredible hospitality, a happy and social environment, HUGS, and a family feeling that makes you feel like you're home, then this place is NOT for you!! Dawn and John you two are incredible. You have found your calling and you do it effortlessly!! Heather and I will be back.

Dawn and John are the ultimate innkeepers, making you feel extremely comfortable and at home immediately upon arrival. The house is BEAUTIFUL, with a wonderful garden, outdoor area and views of the bay. John taught us how to play Bocci outside in his amazing, lush backyard. The history of this house is very cool to hear and being off the main highway was a plus! LOVED IT!!! What a deal! The food they served was outstanding and even came home to "copy" the recipes for my family! My wife and I have stayed in great hotels all over Europe, Canada, United States, China, and the South Pacific which qualifies me in saying that Jabberwock Inn is one of the best in the world. The hospitality, cleanliness, food, charm and the love of Jabberwock makes it so memorable. Once you pass the garden gate, a world of serenity awaits. Tucked away up the street from a touristy part of Monterey you'll find the Jabberwock: A cozy gem of a home, open with warm welcome by easy-going, yet attentive hosts: Dawn & John. Mark and I had chosen this B&B to spend our first weekend together after over 11 years and Dawn made this potentially awkward reunion a comfortable and easy get together. Dear John and Dawn, It's taken me this long to say thanks for the fabulous time we had at the Jabberwock a few months back. We had stayed there three times prior to this stay (so obviously we love the house and grounds) but this was the first time with you folks as innkeepers. You did an outstanding job. Our four days there were so pleasant, including for my husband who was "commuting" to a work conference nearby. The breakfasts and your warm hospitality were spectacular. But, what was most unusual and over-the-top were your late afternoon hors d'oeuvres on the sunny porch. They were elaborate, plentiful, and delicious (and we won't forget the lemon drinks made from your own lemon tree). It was delightful to take time to wind down each day and talk with the hosts and other guests. We are from Madrid, Spain. During our trip that lasted just about 3 weeks, we stayed at several B&B. However, we gotta say that yours was the best by far. We really felt at home. The house was just perfect, very cozy and nicely decorated. We liked the idea about the blackboard with all guests name and locations. We stayed at the Brillig room and loved it. The views of the bay were spectacular and the room had so many nice details. We loved the fireplace and the bed was so comfortable. The B&B was
conveniently located within walking distance of most major attractions. However, the thing that we liked the most was your wonderful breakfast. Oh my god, that nice & freshly squeezed juice, and the food served with it was just out of this world. We wish we could have stayed longer but needed to continue our trip. Nonetheless, we recommended this B&B to all our friends back

We're home now, and the first thing I did when we got back was look around our house and think about how I can make our enormous master bedroom more like the Borogrove - easily the loveliest room I have stayed in. I've been in some extremely expensive hotels, but they all have the same atmosphere: they're full of people who are paid to perform a set of tasks: cook a meal, clean a room, provide guests with a map of the area, stand on the other side of a counter and read your name off a computer screen while reaching for your credit card. It's what I've come to expect from staying in a hotel anywhere. But when we came into your lovely inn, a smiling John came in from another room and greeted us like the old friends he had been waiting for all
day. We got the full tour of the place, and everything we saw was "part of the house - help yourself!" What a refreshing change from the normal minibar with a list of prices that prey on anyone unlucky enough to feel thirsty or nibbly in the night.

We came to your inn so that I could get some writing done, and I have never been as productive as I was sitting outside in the garden, even factoring in the fact that I was talking to my mother via IM, since even your garden gets wonderful wifi reception. The garden was relaxing and lovely and filled with birds who cheered me on as I worked. Had I wanted to go inside, every single
chair and couch you have is comfortable, and it comes down to deciding how close to the spectacular view you want to be - further away in the library, or closer in the sun room.

I am normally a very solitary person. It was very tempting to stay in the beautiful room all day long and work upstairs, but the atmosphere downstairs made me feel as though I would be missing a valuable part of the package if I didn't come downstairs and meet the other guests. I think the loveliest part was getting to hear everyone's plans and hear the stories about what they'd done or where they were going next. The other guests were so wonderful that by Sunday morning it really did feel like we were all sitting down to a family breakfast (hence my offer of the bacon). It felt like sitting down to a wonderful meal with cousins that I just don't see often enough. I can say with all confidence that it never would have felt that way without the two of you, our wonderful hosts.

We'll be back in the spring and bring my mother with us, because this is the kind of place I want to share with the people I love most. Thank you so much! Lise Quintana & Stephen Beitzel

What do you mean we have to fix our own breakfast, and, where is the jabber-juice!!??!! Everyone owes it to themselves to stay with you at your wonderful home/Bed & Breakfast. It truly was the highlight of our trip to California. We stayed in the Tulgey Wood, the Mimsy, and the Wabe. Each was exquisite; the bedding alone made us never want to leave. You thought of everything!! We were warmly welcomed, totally spoiled, and profusely fed. The 5:00 wines and hors d'oeuvres were special..we met lots of great people and had lots of fun chatting while guzzling your wine Dawn! Sipping, sipping..Your B&B is absolutely the best in which we have ever had the pleasure of staying. Where's the Jabber juice? It was hard waking up this morning knowing there wasn't any Jabber juice. This quickly became Kathy's favorite. Your bed and breakfast was filled with wonderful hospitality and warmth. We enjoyed our five night stay so much. Our room was the Borogove. The fireplace and magnificent view and the decor was great. The five o'clock hour made it so special with the wine and appetizers. Almost to the point that you did not want dinner. We spent one day on the Wine Trolley. I would recommend this to any of your guest that want to visit up to six wineries and leave the driving to someone else. John and Dawn, you two are top notch. Greetings Dawn & John, Thank you for the absolutely wonderful week we enjoyed at your B & B, the Jabberwock Inn. We were pleased in every way possible. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed and given the full tour. We felt as if we had walked into a good friend¹s home. All of your touches and personal attention to detail such as the 24/7 availability of soft drinks & water, snacks, tea, homemade chocolate chip cookies, brandy, along with the furnishings throughout your Inn made us feel more comfortable than if we had been staying at a 5 Star Resort! You were both so accommodating in every respect. We really appreciated your recommendations for great restaurants every night as well as securing tickets for us to the Monterey Bay Aquarium where we spent 6 hours in awe. We also had the most spectacular whale watching experience and we were so fortunate to be surrounded by 15-20 humpback whales plus sea lions all within about 100 yards. Two days later we were off to Moss Landing on the Elkhorn Slough Safari, conducted by Captain Yohn Gideon and his environmentalist, Cody into the slough to witness up close the wildlife such as playful sea otters, curious harbor seals, and hundreds of species of waterfowl and migratory shorebirds. We both agree that the best part of our time at the Jabberwock Inn was the conversation with you and all of your other Inn guests from around the world. Each morning began with an amazing breakfast and we looked forward to the evening wine and the delicious appetizers. Our room, the Mome Rath, was interesting, eclectic and very comfortable. We went to the Jabberwock for our first wedding anniversary. As we walked up to the front door, we felt something special. Once the Inn's owner and co-host John answered the door, we knew we were in for a very special stay. John is a very affable, interesting and pleasant host who showed us to our room. We found the entire property to be extremely clean, well thoughtout and overly comfortable. Dawn assures that one has all their needs being met and exceeded.

When we went down staris for the evening social hour our first day, and found ourselves amongst a very diverse and mixed group of folks, which was being hosted by Dawn and John, the Inn owners. Some of the guests included those from England, Los Angeles, the mid-west, east coast, and the bay area. We had a lovely social hour(s) filled with great conversation, and a never ending wine pour including delicious warm appetizers freshly prepared by John and Dawn.

Once Jennie and myself determined where we were headed for our evening adventures based on Dawn and John's recommendations, we had wonderful culinary experiences. (It helps when you mention where you are staying). The next two mornings, the fresh brewed coffee permeating through the house, the scrumptious full breakfast made for a beautiful start for
golfing, sightseeing and hiking. We will certainly stay at the Jabberwock Inn in the future and without hesitation recommend it to our friends and family. - Craig & Jennie

Hi Dawn and John: We just wanted to thank you again for a fabulous time! We have stayed at so many B&B's and yours is by far the best we have ever stayed at! You are the perfect hosts and made us feel so at home from the time we arrived. All of the little touches and attention to detail such as the 24 hour availability of soft drinks, snacks, tea, homemade chocolate chip cookies, brandy, along with the furnishings and personalized service you provide are what sets you apart from other B&B's. And, oh my gosh, the evening wine and hors d'oeuvres and breakfasts are out of this world. You are so generous with the servings of wine and appetizers...we didn't really need to eat dinner...but we did.:) At the second B&B we stayed in, the afternoon wine hour consisted of a small glass of white wine and a plate of cheese and crackers ...quite a difference from the assortment of delicious appetizers you set out for everyone! We only wished we had stayed with you at the end of our trip instead of at the beginning because everywhere else we stayed was such a let down! We'll now compare all B&B's to The Jabberwock and I am afraid we will consistently be disappointed! We will be sure to stay with you again when we return to the West Coast and are recommending you to all of our friends and family. We also posted a review on Trip Advisor. We had the best time. From our first introduction to the B&B, we knew we had found a second home. John let us in , already knew us by name, and gave us a gentleman's tour of "our" home for the night. The place is beautiful. Our room, the Toves on the ground floor, was fantastic, down to the wallpaper and light fixtures, no detail is missed. We arrived just in time for happy hour. It was a very comfortable "meet and greet" with bottomless wineglasses and enough food that we probably should have skipped dinner. But we didn't. At John and Dawn's recommendation (the owners) we went a bit off the beaten path to a yummy seafood restaurant. I think it was simply "The fish house". Delicious. We made it back to the inn in time to work on the jigsaw puzzle, warm up by the fire, with tea for me and a brandy for my other half. I grabbed a cookie, another tea and went off to a steamy hot shower before bed. We had our breakfast at the huge, gorgeous community table where we got to chat away with a few other couples. Loved the fresh pastries, juice and egg dish. More than enough to start the day. We bought our Aquarium tickets right there at the inn which allowed us to bypass the long aue at the entrance, saving 15? 20 minutes? Loved the jellyfish. It was a short visit, but a pleasant one. We will definitely return for a very comfortable, very friendly, nearby getaway. Lola, Bay Area
